Rattray Head Eco-Hostel is a former lighthouse shore station among huge dunes on an isolated 11 mile sandy beach. Come and relax in this gorgeous most easterly part of mainland Scotland,
and enjoy one of its driest, sunniest, midge-free areas.
The 1892 granite building has been renovated to form a modern, non-smoking, dog-friendly coastal retreat. The hostel has self-catering kitchens, bunkrooms, and double and family bedrooms.
It is part of the SIH network and has a Visit Scotland 3-Star grading.
The North Sea Cycle Route (Sustrans 1) is 17 miles inland and passes through historic Aberdeenshire with stone circles, castle ruins and golf courses.

Seal Natter - Eight grey seals close to the beach sheltering from the worst of the rough waves further out. Some were bobbing like fishing floats and others were lying like logs and surfing the waves. What fabulous fun under the clear sunny skies. 27/08/2010 - 1.58pm
Bird Natter - House martins now have 3 nests around the hostel windows, the first time in at least 20 years. Some chicks have already fledged, and others can be watched without being disturbed from only a couple of feet away inside the hostel. 26/08/2010 - 9.03pm
